Fireproof Gun Safes Then and Now

!: Fireproof Gun Safes Then and Now

Back in the 70's fire resistant gun safes were designed with drywall fireboard and only had a 30 minute fire rating. They were also infamous for not doing their job which was of course to protecting guns from fire. Today, that has changed. Fire resistant and fireproof safes come in all different materials including ceramic, and can provide protection for up to 3 hours.

Over the last couple of years, these safes haves significantly improved the quality and level of their fire ratings. However, there are a lot of safes that offer fire resistant and fireproof features on the market right now that are not as reliable as one would hope. Therefore, it's important for you to do some research before you go out and shop for one.

When buying a fireproof safe today:

Make sure the door doesn't rattle when closed. This means it doesn't seal well and will not protect well from smoke or even fire damage. Decide whether you want a 1, 2 or 3 hour fire protection on your safe. Keep in mind, most house fires typically only burn for one hour or less and longer lasting fire protection costs more money. Fireproof vs. fire resistant: the term fire proof refers to safes with 60 plus minute fire ratings. Typically, these babies will last through almost any fire. The term fire resistant implies that the safe will only last about 20-30 minutes in a fire and depending on the type of lock and security of the door it could be susceptible to smoke damage.

Ensuring your guns are secure from both natural disasters and predators is important. If you have any questions contact your local gun safes dealer today.

Stop Worrying About Your Gun Falling Into the Wrong Hands by Getting a Fireproof Gun Safe

!: Stop Worrying About Your Gun Falling Into the Wrong Hands by Getting a Fireproof Gun Safe

Getting a handgun is without doubt a good move to secure your safety in the case of an emergency, nevertheless one must be absolutely certain that the gun does not fall into the wrong hands, for instance into the possession of one's own children! Over the last couple of years there have been numerous stories of children opening fire in public areas such as schools, and most of these children managed to get hold of the weapon in question from their own homes, and that too due to the carelessness of their parents that do not secure the storage of their guns properly. Even more shocking is the fact that most parents keep their guns loaded as well in addition to not securing them in a safe and out-of-bounds location!

Thus the most important thing to be accomplished is to ensure that all your firearms are kept in a safe, secure location that isn't accessible to your children and the teenagers at home, who can tend to act rashly at times. The most practical way of doing this is by purchasing a safe to store your gun safely, and you would be able to keep your gun away from your kids effectively without having to worry that they would have access to your firearm. Once you decide on this option, you should start exploring your options to determine the best safe for yourself. In addition to keeping your gun away from the wrong hands, you could also opt to get a fireproof safe that would protect your gun brilliantly if there is an occurrence of a fire at your home.

Now that you are certain about getting a safe to store your gun, you would need to determine what kind of a safe that you would need. If you have only one gun in your possession, the best option would be a small, portable safe that holds one gun brilliantly with its ammunition or spare magazines. The size of this safe would also depend on the size of your gun. On the other hand, if you hold several guns, you would need a bigger safe that would be able to hold all your guns in addition to their ammo and magazines safely within a single safe. Or you could opt to get a few safes to cater for each of your guns, this might be a more expensive option, but in terms of portability this is the ideal option, as you could carry these guns securely with you when required.

And you would also need to decide how you want to secure these safes without allowing others to have access to them. The conventional method is through the use of keys, but then you are open to the risk of misplacing your keys or losing possession of them to the wrong hands. You also have the option of analog or digital numerical-combination locks to secure your safes. Last but not least, for those looking for a more sophisticated and secure method to safeguard your guns, biometric safes (also known as fingerprint gun safes) would be the best option for you! These safes utilize the fingerprint access system to lock and unlock the safes, thus they are exceptionally secure and safe to have.

With the above-mentioned pointers and obtaining the right fireproof gun safe for yourself, you can now stop worrying about your gun falling into the wrong hands!

Gun Safe Basics

!: Gun Safe Basics

There are multiple things to consider when shopping for the best gun safe to fit your needs, and just like any other major purchase, you will want to do plenty of research to ensure you make the proper decision. If you are just beginning your search it may seem a little overwhelming at first, but once you understand the basics, your decision making process should be much easier.

Size

An optimally sized gun safe should comfortably be able hold your entire gun collection and gun related accessories without being too cluttered or messy. There are all sorts of sizes to consider, and most gun safes are marked with the maximum number of rifles they can hold, and this can range anywhere from under 10 to over 65.

One of the biggest regrets people have after buying a safe is that they wish they had purchased a larger one. This is because, as you will quickly find out, there are so many non-gun related valuables you can store in your gun safe as well. Luckily, there are several accessories you can use to maximize the space that you do have. For instance, a door organizer can hang on the back of the door and hold many small, loose items, including handguns and ammunition; pistol racks can hold and organize your pistols; and jewelry drawers and cash boxes can help protect your jewelry, cash, and other small valuables that you would like to keep separate.

Large, free-standing, gun safes are great if you have multiple guns, ammo, and other gun related accessories for it to hold. But if you only own a single pistol, or would like to keep a pistol separate from the rest of your collection, you can also consider a pistol or a handgun safe. They are much smaller than normal gun safes and can easily be hidden inside of a closet or under a bed. They are also a lot less expensive than traditional gun safes.

Security

A steel plate encased within the walls of your gun safe is what stops a drill from being able to drill right through it. The thickness of the plate is measured by gauges, and the lower the gauge, the thicker the plate. For instance, 10 gauge equals 9/64 inch and 12 gauge equals 7/64 inch, making the 10 gauge plate slightly thicker, and a little more secure than the 12 gauge plate. 10 gauge and 12 gauge are the two most common you will find, just remember that the lower the gauge, the thicker the plate.

You will also want to consider the different types of safe locks. Combination locks are the most common you will find, and they are tested, tried, and true. Electronic locks, also known as digital locks, are just as secure as combination locks and perhaps a little bit easier to open. They are basically a key pad with the numbers 0 through 9, and can be opened by entering a pre-determined code. A common safety feature associated with digital locks is that they temporarily disable themselves after several wrong code entries, usually for 10 to 15 minutes. Electronic locks require batteries that need to be changed from time to time. Most manufacturers give you the decision between a combination lock and an electronic lock, with the electronic lock being a little more expensive.

A little less common, but just as secure, is the biometric, or fingerprint lock. Biometric safes can store multiple fingerprints and are even quicker and easier to open than digital locks, especially in the dark, since they only require the scanning of the proper fingerprints to be opened. These locks also require batteries.

A couple of other important security features include fire and water resistance. Most gun safes, by their very nature, are at least somewhat fire and water resistant, but the degree to which they are able to withstand the elements varies greatly. To keep manufacturers honest in their claims, an independent agency called Underwriter's Laboratory (UL) tests for different levels of fireproof and waterproof capabilities.

For instance, "waterproof" and "water resistant" mean two different things. Water resistant means that the safe was tested in standing water for a period of time without damage to the contents, while waterproof means that the safe was completely submerged in water.

Certified fireproof safes usually come with a UL rating that labels the amount of time that the safe can withstand a fire without damaging its contents, and this can range anywhere from 30 minutes to up to 2.5 hours.

Another proactive measure you can take is mounting your gun safe to the floor. This prevents burglars from pushing it over to weaken the structure, or simply taking off with the entire safe. Safes often come with pre-drilled holes and the proper mounting equipment to properly secure your gun safe to the ground.

It may be odd to think about, but you will also need to protect your gun safe from itself. Highly secure safes are almost air tight, which creates a humid environment due to the minimal air circulation. This is especially true if you live in a humid region. Metal objects that are exposed to humidity for too long will begin to rust, and this includes your gun collection. Fortunately, you can easily combat humidity with safe dehumidifiers. There are all sorts of dehumidifiers and none of them are very expensive, including electric dehumidifiers, renewable dehumidifiers, and silica packets.

Pricing

Gun safe prices pretty much run the gambit. A large, free standing gun safe can run anywhere from several hundred dollars to well over ,000. It usually comes down to a combination of size, looks, security features, accessories, and name recognition, with the median price for a good sized, high quality gun safe running in the ,500 range. There are many different manufacturers for you to consider and they've all got their own features and benefits, and there are all sorts of places for you shop for a gun safe, both online and offline, so with a little bit of leg work you can really find a good deal.

Searching for online gun safe retailers is a good place to start because, through the magic of competition, they tend to offer wide selections at discounted prices, often with no shipping costs or sales tax. This also makes it easier to comparison shop.

The Complete Stun Gun Buyers Guide (Part 3) - Product Reviews, Disable Pins, Holsters and More!

!: The Complete Stun Gun Buyers Guide (Part 3) - Product Reviews, Disable Pins, Holsters and More!

Imagine the following situation for a minute: You went to the mall to meet some old good friends of yours. You got together for a dinner and a movie, and you had the greatest of times, as usual. But it got late, and it was time to go home. A couple of friends offered to accompany you to your car, but you said it was OK, that you could go alone. After all, this was something you did all the time, and nothing had ever happened...until that night.

The parking lot was deserted, which was rather unusual. You started to walk faster. Did you hear some footsteps behind you, or was it just your imagination? Nervously, you turned around...and there he was. Yes: this big guy was no friend of yours, and his intentions sure looked quite hostile to you. Quickly, you took your stun gun out of its holster and turned it on...Yes, the powerful non lethal weapon with the right shape and the right voltage. But what happened next you still do not completely understand to this date: all you knew was that the criminal had taken your stun gun away from you, somehow!

But when he pushed the fire button to use your powerful weapon against you...nothing happened. It didn't work! He was perplexed, wasn't he? You knew it by the look in his face. And what happened next, he still does not completely understand to this date: he had pepper spray all over his face! It was the most horrible experience he had ever experienced so far. His evil plans were thwarted: he was temporarily incapacitated. And you were safe, nowhere to be found!

Welcome back to the third -and last- installment of the stun gun buyers guide. So far, you have learned about the different types of stun guns' shapes (regular stun guns, mini stun guns, cell phone stun guns, and stun batons), and how to select the best one, based on those categories. You have also learned how to choose the right voltage. Now get ready to learn about important extra features such as disable pins, rechargeable stun guns and holsters! This article also reviews the best stun weapons per category as well. Ready? Let's get started!

What the poor criminal from our story didn't know was that yours was not an ordinary stun device...yours came equipped with a disable pin. "What's that?", you might ask. The answer is as simple as it is important: a disable pin is a thin metal stick that comes attached to the stun weapon unit on one point, and to the end of a wrist strap on the other. Its purpose is to keep your stun gun working at full power...as long as it is you who are holding your weapon in your hand (with the strap around your wrist, of course). If the non lethal weapon is ever taken away from you, the disable pin will be disconnected from the device, preventing the unit from working and being used against you.

It must be clarified that someone taking the stun device away from you would certainly be a very rare and unfortunate event. But it can happen. You must keep in mind that ANY weapon can be taken away from you and used against you (even a shotgun). So whenever possible, try to get a stun gun with a disable pin (and a pepper spray as a "Plan B" strategy!). You won't regret you did.

Another useful recommendation would be to select a stun gun with a free holster (buy one if the chosen stun weapon does not include it). Because you will need to easily access you non lethal weapon fast (specially under a surprise attack), a holster might be an integral part of your self defense strategy. Do not underestimate its importance: Your stun gun might not be easily accessible if you leave it at the bottom of your purse or suitcase.

"What about rechargeable stun guns?", you might ask. Yes, I haven't forgotten about those. Having the ability of being recharged is certainly another highly desirable stun weapon extra. "But rechargeable stun devices are more expensive, aren't they?", some people might argue. Well, that might be true in some cases. However, rechargeable stun guns might be more expensive now, but cheaper later on (you won't have to keep buying batteries every time the old ones die). In contrast, non-rechargeable stun weapons may be cheaper now, but more expensive in the long run (although its batteries should last for a considerable time, you will certainly have to buy new ones every now and then). So try to select a stun device that is rechargeable whenever possible.

Well, now you know everything there is to know about disable pins, holsters and rechargeable stun weapons! Let's apply that knowledge, together with what you have learned throughout the two previous article installments, to review and select some great stun guns options within each shape category (regular stun gun, mini stun gun, cell phone stun gun, and stun baton). These recommendations are by no means conclusive and final: if you apply what you have learned so far, you might find that a stun device that is not mentioned below may be a better option for you. But, by the same token, the stun gun of your dreams might be waiting for you in the following list, so please read on!

If you buy a regular stun gun, your best shot might be either the "Stun Master Multi Function Stun Gun with 2.7 Million Volts" or the "Stun Master 775,000 Volts". Both are really powerful, both have disable pins, and both include a free holster. However, the "Stun Master Multi Function Stun Gun with 2.7 Million Volts" includes additional features that the other stun weapon doesn't have: a super bright LED flashlight, red flashing emergency lights, and a powerful alarm. Check both of them out and decide for yourself which one is better for you.

If you prefer mini stun guns instead, "The RUNT 950,000 Volts Rechargeable Mini Stun Gun" is really a great self defense device. It is powerful and rechargeable, of course. Plus it comes with a free heavy duty nylon belt loop holster.

On the other hand, if powerful cell phone stun guns are your type, maybe you should go for the "Stun Master 800,000 Volts Cell Phone Stun Gun". It comes with a disable pin and a free holster, and also function as a 100db Personal Alarm and as a bright Flashlight as well.

And last (but not least), the "Stun Master 800,000 Volt Telescopic Stun Baton" might be your better option in the stun baton category. It has three ways to protect you: 800,000 volts, a loud 120db Alarm, and a light (which might come in handy in dark surroundings). If the attacker ever tries to grab the telescopic Stun Baton away from you he will be shocked, as the full length of the expandable metal part of the unit is electrified. Additionally, it's only 13 inches long when collapsed (closed), but 21.5 inches long when fully extended. And it is rechargeable.

Congratulations! Now you are officially ready to buy the stun weapon that best fits your needs. Yes, you have learned a lot by now, and you must be congratulated for your interest in your own safety and that of your loved ones. You might truly be sparing yourself a lot of trouble and pain in the future just by learning and acting on the knowledge that you have just acquired.

Always remember: You and your loved ones deserve the safest life possible. But wishful thinking can only take you so far. You must act as soon as possible. Protect yourself and your loved ones today, while still in time. There is no time to waste!

Responsible Gun Storage by Finding the Best Gun Safe Features

!: Responsible Gun Storage by Finding the Best Gun Safe Features

Owning a gun for personal and business use always entails responsible handling and safekeeping from its users. Owning a gun safe is one of the important factors to consider upon gun ownership. When purchasing a gun safe it is highly empirical to know the best features to look for in order to ensure that you get the quality storage safe where to keep your gun.

Buying a gun safe of good quality is much less expensive than spending for a replacement once your gun gets stolen. There are several stores who sell gun safes of different quality and the choice is left to the buyer to choose the one that fits their budget and meets their quality requirements. One should note that a gun safe that is made of thicker steel always offers the highest quality and better protection for your guns.

With countless gun stores selling gun safes of different brands and quality how will you get a gun safe that comes with better quality and assurance of storing your guns safely and more reliably? Knowing the following important factors that contribute to the quality of a gun safe feature will help you make better decisions when buying a gun safe.

1. Gun Safe Size and Weight

Recommendations from the experts on the ideal size and weight of a gun safe will be an interior vertical clearance of 58" and a loaded weight of 750 lbs. A 30" barrel rifle for instance is about 52" long. An extra space will be required thus a 58" interior height is more ideal. This is the recommended minimum interior vertical clearance by experts. The common width sizes are between 36" to 40" which provides enough space for a 16-gun rotary rack on one side of the gun safe with an added shelving unit on the other. These measurements provide an efficient and handy storage of a gun safe.

A 2000 lbs gun safe provides better security but requires professional installation in your home that can be a bit expensive. An alternative option is to go for a 750 lbs gun safe which provides a sturdy foundation that is hard to move while giving enough size and can resist from being tipped over.

2. Shell Strength and Wall Thickness

This is an important feature of a gun safe as this help prevents your guns from being toasted during a fire. A gun safe should be one with good external strength to prevent the breaking down of its components such as when heated on a fire. Good quality gun safes shells are constructed with continuous wells instead in stitches.

It is notable that steel is very expensive and many gun owners find it more practical to compromise the external shielding of a gun safe to get manageable weight and to spend a reasonable cost. Since most home related gun thieves employ a snatch and grab tactics of stealing guns instead of using cutting tools and gadgets this may seem a practical choice for a gun safe buyer.

3. Locking Device

Experts prefer the feature of rotary combination dial locks as a more reliable locking device for gun safes. They remain to be durable and often times with less hassles to operate than its digital clock counterparts. Cheap electronic locks are known to have its key pad internal to easily wear out. When choosing to buy a dial lock you should look for a UL group II certification feature and a UL Type 1 certification for digital lock gun safes.

Being able to find these good quality features from a gun safe will give you a guaranteed reliable gun safe to buy where you can store your gun safely.

The other end of the spectrum are weapons such as microwave guns, which do no persisting harm, but will disable a pirate shortly to allow a vessel to escape.

Preventing outside Fires to Your Home

!: Nice Preventing outside Fires to Your Home

It is important to think the surface of your home as a hazard arean and should be a part of your property safety plan. Don't overlook the patio, back yard, roof and garden when development your inspection for fire hazards. These areas are just as important as the interior of your home, especially since there are other factors that can influence a fire's behavior.

Roof Safety

There are many homes lost due to the roof catching fire. If you are building or replacing the roof, ask your undertaker of a package deal about using non-combustible or fire unyielding roofing materials, such as Class A shingles, metal, or tiles. If roof of your home is not fire retardant, it can be treated with fire retardant processes to cut its flammability.

Yard safety Cleaning

If you have a wood pile in your yard, following some basic fire safety rules can forestall it from catching fire. Always remember that the way you utter the wood pile can cut the occurrence, size, and intensity of a fire. Make a safety parimeter nearby the wood with about 30 feet of clearance. A fresh, green lawn makes a good safety parimeter, as long as it is clear of leaves, twigs, and other fuel for a fire.

When it comes to plants and trees, some are more fire unyielding than others. For example, hardwood trees are more fire unyielding than pine trees. Remove dry leaves, dead limbs, twigs and debris as they can turn a small fire into a large one. By thinning out your trees to keep a fifteen foot distance between tree crowns you can cut the chance of fire spreading from tree to tree.

Tree limbs and dead branches should be removed from about 6 to 10 feet off the ground to forestall fires from spreading from the ground to the trees. Trees should be well maintained and pruned near buildings, stovepipes and chimneys.

Outdoor Grill

The best way to keep your outdoor gas grill in good and safe health is to keep it clean of dirt, grease, and debris. Periodically check the Case line for cracks. Propane or natural gas leaking from a cracked hose can be highly hazardous.

Ghillie Suits - How They Evolved & Hints For Using a Ghillie Suit

!: Nice Ghillie Suits - How They Evolved & Hints For Using a Ghillie Suit

Years ago, when Ghillie suits first became ready for hunters, they were highly expensive. My husband brought dozens of burlap bags and asked me to make a suit for hunting - birds & turkeys.

Being the gullible twit that I was, I labored over this task for a join of weeks. It was a fun-less job. By its nature, burlap is heavy, dank, smelly, itchy - and flammable! The emphasis should be on itchy - real itchy!

At the end, however, we figured we'd saved at least 0 of the 0 cost of the suit, according to my deer husband;-) The results were impressive, the suit worked well and Richard brought his limit home.

Richard was surprised how close the turkeys and other birds would come towards him. according to Richard, he "could see the whites of their eyes!"

However, the suit's materials were awful. When it rained, his Ghillie suit became sodden and smelled worse than before. Drying it out was a challenge.

The suits were heavy and caught on twigs and branches. One good thing about them is that they did not encourage movement, so the hunter inside stayed rather still. To say that the early Ghillie suits were 'a pain,' doesn't begin to cover the situation.

Very quickly, hunters learned that suits made of real burlap bags weren't desirable (unless you lived in a very cold climate). What else could be used to protect the hunter while not causing him to itch to death?

Manufacturers began experimenting with materials. They used 'scent-lok' and Fauxliage,™ fabrics, leaf-shaped additions, cotton, polyester, nylon fabrics, along with many others. The evolution of the Ghillie suit has been a long one.

Many of the fabrics "swished" and were a dead give-away to the animals the hunter was trying to shoot. Others had a sheen that caught an animal's eye long before a hunter could draw a bead to shoot.

Hints

1) It has taken over 20 years of experimentation for manufacturers to originate undoubtedly 'successful' Ghillie suits. Lots of their "almosts" are on clearance counters. Run home and do some research on the Internet before investing in clearance ghillies!

2) Remember that patience is more prominent than a ghillie suit! Animals are very sensitive to movement! If you, or person hunting with you is wiggly, use a blind.

3) Turkeys have no curiosity gene! If they see movement, they leave! They leave investigation of movement to those gobblers having a death-wish!

4) Ghillie suits are a overwhelming increasing to a hunter's tools. However, they can never replace patience!
